Merrimack Rep Board Member Shubu Mukherjee
Winner of 2009 Wilkes Award
Honored for work in Computer Micro-Architectures
Lowell, MA – Shubu Mukherjee, a resident of Southborough, MA and member of Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s Board of Trustees, received the 2009 Maurice Wilkes Award on June 23, 2009 at the International Symposium on Computer Architecture in Austin, TX. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions to computer architecture made by an individual in the first 20 years of his or her career. Mr. Mukherjee, who is a Principal Engineer and Director of the SPEARS Group at Intel, is being honored for his outstanding contributions to modeling and design of soft-error tolerant Micro-architectures. A soft error can occur when a computer is struck by a neutron from deep space or alpha particle at the earth's surface, resulting in data loss. As computer chip sizes decrease, they become more susceptible to soft errors, which is why research in this field is increasingly important as chip technology advances. In 2008, Mr Mukherjee released a book on this subject titled Architecture Design for Soft Errors. He has served on the Merrimack Rep Board of Trustees since July 2008.
THE MAURICE WILKES AWARD: The award of $2,500 is given annually for an outstanding contribution to computer architecture made by an individual whose computer-related professional career (graduate school or full-time employment, whichever began first) started no earlier than January 1st of the year that is 20 years prior to the time of nomination. The award is presented annually at the International Symposium on Computer Architecture Awards Banquet.
Merrimack Repertory Theatre is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
