FRIENDS OF MRT HOSTS OPEN HOUSE AND MEMBERSHIP EVENT
FREE Backstage Tours and Refreshments

Lowell, MA – The Friends of MRT will host an open house and membership event on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the theatre (50 E. Merrimack Street).  Guests will receive a VIP backstage tour of The Fantasticks and learn about how to become a part of one of the city’s cultural landmarks by joining the Friends of MRT.  This event is open to the public and free of charge.  Light refreshments and beverages will be served.  Merrimack Repertory Theatre will be offering a special discounted rate for any new subscribers who join that evening.  RSVP by Friday, October 17, 2008 to Jeff Prescott, 978.654.7552 or development@merrimackrep.org.

The Friends of MRT is a volunteer group that serves as Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s fundraising auxiliary by helping to develop new

sources of contributed income through the organization of special events, social functions and fundraisers.  Members serve as ambassadors for the theatre in the community and play a pivotal role in strengthening the theatre’s base of support, often by introducing people to MRT for the first time.  This past spring the Friends of MRT produced the successful fundraising event, “Lights, Camera…Auction!,” which raised more than $80,000 to help produce award-winning, quality theatre and education programs for our region.

The Friends of MRT is already planning exciting events for the 2008-2009 Season, including the theatre’s 30th Anniversary Gala; however, the group needs to grow in order to accomplish bigger, broader goals.  There are many ways for volunteers to participate at a level of time and commitment that best suits their schedule.  For more information please contact Jeff Prescott at 978.654.7552 or development@merrimackrep.org, or visit http://www.merrimackrep.org/support/volunteer.aspx.
