MRT - Ticket Sales Begin Sept. 2
8/19/2008

LOWELL, MA:   After a brisk pre-season of subscription sales, Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) will begin selling individual show tickets on September 2, 2008 for its 2008-2009 Season.  To facilitate easier ticket purchases, MRT is introducing a new online box office at www.merrimackrep.org, which will be the fastest and easiest way to purchase tickets 24/7 beginning September 2.  While some performances and sections are sold out on subscription, tickets are still available for most performances including both matinees and evenings.

The opening show of MRT’s 30th Anniversary season will be the world’s longest running musical, The Fantasticks with Book and Lyrics by Tom Jones and Music by Harvey Schmidt, which will run October 16 - November 9 (low- priced previews Oct. 16, 17, 18, 19).  The Fantasticks is irresistible with its universal, timeless story and memorable score.  Filled with youthful innocence, a boy falls for the girl next door in a rebellious romance until he learns that he may have been deceived.  A story of first love, lost love and eventually true love, it will capture your heart with its beloved songs “Try to Remember” and “Soon it’s Gonna Rain.”  Individual tickets are priced $31 to $61.

Skylight, by David Hare, will be the second play of the season.  Hare, who is considered one of the few major playwrights of the 21st century, has crafted a very human story, delivered with wit, empathy and a dramatic ferociousness.  Two former lovers reunite at an emotional crossroads.  Will they rekindle their affair?  Sparks of passion fly as conflicting desires and beliefs battle it out in this emotional roller-coaster ride.  Skylight will run November 20 to December 14 (low-priced previews Nov. 20, 21, 22, 23).  Individual tickets are priced from $26 to $56.

The third play of MRT’s 30th Anniversary season will be Richard Dresser’s comedy A View of the Harbor.  This is the regional premiere of the third in a critically acclaimed trilogy by the Massachusetts-born playwright.  When an idealist and his girlfriend visit his eccentric family in Maine, each one’s quest for happiness unearths surprising revelations and long-buried family secrets that make it hard to escape from the twisted orbit of the Townsend family.  A View of the Harbor will run January 8 to February 1, 2009 (low-priced previews Jan. 8, 9, 10, 11).  Individual tickets are priced from $26 to $56.

The fast-paced psychological thriller Tranced is the fourth play of the season.  Written by Bob Clyman, author of MRT’s 2007 Off-Broadway production of Secret Order, Tranced weaves the complex story of a hypnotherapist who uncovers international deceit during sessions with an African patient.  What is the truth in her shocking memories and will anyone listen?  The story is layered in provocative questions with a tricky plot twist ending.  Tranced runs February 12 to March 8 (low-priced previews February 12, 13, 14, 15).  Individual tickets are priced $26 to $56.

Bad Dates, a hilarious and touching comedy, will grace MRT’s stage as its fifth play of the season.  A single mother with a teenage daughter, a screamingly stressful job, and a collection of 600 pairs of shoes, Haley Walker tries to find love in the big city.  Relive her rotten romances as Tibetan Buddhists and even the Romanian mob get in the way of her finding “Mr. Right.”  Her love and fashion odyssey has had audiences across the country rolling in the aisles!  Bad Dates runs March 19 to April 12 (low-priced previews March 19, 20, 21, 22).  Individual tickets are priced $26 to $56.

Eugene O’Neill’s American classic A Moon for the Misbegotten will be the final production of MRT’s 2008-2009 season.  O’Neill’s engaging story of two lost souls and their touching encounter under a full moon is a stark look at humanity in its basest and loveliest form.  Josie and James struggle with dual realities in this comic and tragic meeting.  A Moon for the Misbegotten is four-time Pulitzer Prize winner O’Neill’s towering achievement.  It will run from April 23 to May 17 (low priced previews April 23, 24, 25, 26).  Tickets are priced from $26 to $56.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s Box Office is located at 50 E. Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA.  Tickets may be purchased either by using MRT’s new online box office at www.merrimackrep.org or by phoning the Box Office at 978-654-4678.
